For this assignment, I turned a written report into a form of visual communication. Taking a report discussing public relations on an international level, I created a tri-fold brochure. Looking at this design now, I would go back and fix the spacing between the text and images/fold lines. I would also adjust the text to get rid of any widows in the writing. I would also make use of the negative space to create a more cohesive design.
For this assignment, you will design a flier for a Real Estate company from the list below to advertise one of their listings (e.g. Residential House) for sale. Please use InDesgin CC for creating this flier.
RE/MAX
Centry 21
Coldwell Banker
ERA
After selecting the company, use the Internet to research what you can find about any stylistic elements the company uses consistently. Many companies have a style sheet that outlines specific colors, fonts, and so forth to be used in association with any advertising produced for them. Your task is to work within the design style constraints for that company and to produce a piece that has visual unity with all of the other elements - including the company logo.
Layout Guideline:
Use at least two photos, one main area of body text (explaining general information) and one bulleted area for highlihgting specific features
Please use a grid system for this layout to arrange design elements effectively
You can use an many of design elements to help you create unity in your one page layout
Be creative but keep in mind that simplicity is the key to any effective design. You will be graded based on how effective your design will cover the above guidelines
The final product of this assignment should be an 8.5 x 11 flier design in pdf format.
As part of an InDesign course, I was assigned the task of creating my magazine from start to finish. I had to create ads and find blogs/articles online that I could ask permission from the author to use for education purposes. Adobe had a lot of ads circulating at the time I was working on this assignment so I made an ad for an Adobe dupe called Eboda.
Once the course was over, I had a printed magazine that I was able to hold and flip through. I even possess the new skill of being able to create an interactive PDF and magazine EPUB. With this, my love for print design was created.
In my final semester of college, I led a community service team with three other designers. One of our clients was The Veterans Heritage Project: Arizona Chapter. After working very closely with their publishing director and program coordinator, we created the following designs. These illustrations were then published in their 2023 Edition of Since You Asked XIX. Below is the creative brief that was given to us:
The printed page for our book is 8 1/2” x 11” with a 1/4” bleed on all sides.
5 Conflict Era Introduction pieces (one for each era)
No less than 9”x11” in size
Maintain a vertical or “portrait” orientation
Be black and white or grayscale (Any full-color artwork will be converted to black and white)
5 Side Art pieces (one for each era)
No less than 1.75”x9.5” in size
Maintain a vertical or “portrait” orientation
Be black and white or grayscale (Any full-color artwork will be converted to black and white)
The bottom 1/4 to 1/3 of the artwork should be left blank so the veteran's branch indication (ARMY, NAVY, etc.) is more clearly visible without conflict between the type and the Art. A faded gradient can be used for a more seamless transition to white.
Current Deadlines:
02/28/22 First rough draft/sketches/detailed ideas
03/28/22 First draft (implement feedback from first overview)
04/25/22 First finished art presentation (implement feedback from second overview)
05/16/22 Final files due
One of the honors societies I am a member of was putting together an event and didn't have any advertising so I volunteered to create a flier.
One of the clients my team and I worked on while completing our community service was Mesa Public Schools. They needed a flier for their Earth Day celebration event. We were given full creative freedom so we learned what questions to ask to get an idea of what the client truly wanted so we could create a design that exceeded their expectations.
For this assignment, you will design a poster (asymmetrical) to highlight or advertise a musical instrument of your choice. You need to make sure that your design is balanced and have a unified overall feel and look to it.
Design Guidelines:
Use only one instrument to highlight
You can have as much text as you would like, but make sure there is balance between the amount of text and the graphics
You can use as many design elements to help you create unity for this design (based on the vector or photographic nature of your design)
Be creative but keep in mind that simplicity is the key to any effective design
The final product of this assignment should be an 11 x 17 poster design in pdf format.
According to NationalParkPosters.com "The WPA-style posters have their origin in the 1930s, when the New Deal era Works Progress Administration commissioned a set of posters to promote tourism and conservation. These posters had bold colors, vivacious visuals and easy-to-read typography, which is now known as WPA-style artwork.
An infographic is a collection of imagery, data visualizations like pie charts and bar graphs, and minimal text that gives an easy-to-understand overview of a topic. Venngage definition.
If I was to go back and edit this design now, I would adjust the text to make sure there are no widows (leftover one-word lines) and fix the text leading in the text boxes. I would also make sure there is more space between the text boxes and the text lines, centering the text in each box.
While leading a team of three other designers, we worked with an on-campus client, The Monarchs at Mesa Community College. After a semester of sketches and client feedback, we completed their educational trading cards; with each member of the team contributing to major aspects of the design. Below are the original notes and the final printed trading cards:
Description: They want us to incorporate their Monarch logo into the border/frame around the tracking information cards. Also creating the layout to incorporate the images while leaving room for the text they wish to add on the actual cards themselves.
Size: Probably 5"x3" or vice versa
we need to ask which orientation (create sketches/mockups in both orientations)
Printing: Using the campus print shop
we need to ask the instructor about bleed and printing specifics
File Type: Probably a packaged .ai file so she can add text.
Important Information:
We need to include the home college logo and department logo (MCC)
square corners
5 cards total
Deadline: No set deadline
Needs to be done before May
